9th FINA World Swimming Championship 25m
Manchester hosted the event at the MEN concert arena, building two temporary pools and wowing an
audience of 9,000 per night with a spectacular theatrical extravaganza. The 9th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m)
2008 saw some of the best swimming in the world with a total of 18 world records broken in five days of competition.
Great Britain surpassed all expectations to finish the Championships fifth in the medals table, behind America,
Australia, The Netherlands and Zimbabwe.
Byrom plc, trading as World Swimming Championship Travel Services, was exclusively contracted by The
FINA World Swimming Championships 2008 to provide accommodation, logistical support and acquire the required number of
vehicles and services to support the transport requirements of the event. The constituent groups were members of the
"FINA Family" which include WSC2008 Ltd staff, official guests, athletes from over 130 countries, executives and guests
from national swimming federations and WSC2008 Ltd sponsors.
The key transport elements included airport arrival transfers, airport transfers departures,
accreditation transport, comprehensive timetabled services from all hotels to the swimming venues, media transport, car
parking and delegates VIP courtesy car service.
Byrom plc worked independently to obtain the required number of hotel rooms. The room inventory was
then managed through our Check-in IT system maximising flexibility, minimising the administrative prices and removing
artificial deadlines which enabled the client to retain ultimate control of their accommodation and maximise
accommodation levels.
