Ryder Cup Travel Services:
RCTS have provided accommodation and logistical support to Ryder Cup Limited (RCL) (the event rights holder) and their constituent groups for the Ryder Cup since the 32nd Ryder Cup Matches took place at Valderrama Golf Club, Spain in 1997*.
RCTS’s role varies bi-annually depending on whether the event takes place on European or American soil.
For the ‘Away’ matches on American soil, RCTS manages the European travel arrangements on behalf of RCL, providing accommodation and logistical support for RCL, the European Team, PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, Boards of Directors of the European Tour, VIP guests and approximately 1,500 European Supporters (providing travel packages that include tickets, accommodation and ground transportation).
For the ‘Home’ matches on European soil, RCTS has a much larger role servicing the ticket inclusive travel package requirements of up to 3,000 guests. In addition RCTS provided the ground transportation solution servicing over 13,000 clients for the 32nd Ryder Cup in 1997, 8,000 supporters for the 34th Ryder Cup in 2002 (re-scheduled from 2001), 45,000 supporters for the 36th Ryder Cup in 2006 and most recently operated the Park and Rides, Newport Train Station Coach Transfers to Celtic Manor Resort as well as the Perry Golf Ship transfers for the 38th Ryder Cup in 2010 which was used by over 50,000 supporters.
In addition to the ticket inclusive packages that RCTS provided to the general public and tour operator industry, RCTS was contracted by RCL to provide a turnkey ticketing solution for the 36th Ryder Cup Matches in 2006. Byrom was responsible for the following areas of operation:
- Development of a ticketing strategy with consultation on pricing and distribution methods.
- Production of a customer facing website for online sales and redevelopment of website to incorporate a “real-time” sales tool for unsold practise day tickets.
- Random ballot (lottery) of applications due to oversubscription.
- The event consisted of approximately 45,000 spectators per day for six days, along with photo accreditation required for some 5,000 support staff, media and VIP’s.
